In my blog I want to start talking about my country: Japan. I'm living in Italy for more than 20 years, but when I was student in Tokyo, I wandered the city center with my friends in absolute safety. I went home alone. A Tokyo midnight there is still plenty of light still and then I did not feel any danger.
Here it seems strange, but if you forgot the bag at the station and were coming back after half an hour, you found it.
This was Tokyo. Imagine the smaller cities of Japan. In the city of my childhood, no one closed the door during the day. We were all sure that there were no criminals.
When I was a child I remember I found a wallet and having it brought to the police. It was normal to do so. It was a duty. It was unimaginable to have a different behavior.
I lived for so many years. But when I arrived in Italy, I have been stolen suitcase. Over time, I then immediately theft and muggings. I love Italy, but I know that is different from my country.
Many of my fellow countrymen, are subject to theft when they come here. And when they go to the consulate, officials explain that the fuopri from Japan these things happen.
But now even in Japan, things have changed. Especially in large cities: crime has increased due to the economic crisis.
But even today, traveling and living in Japan is safer than in other parts of the world.
And I remain proud of this.
